Deloitte
Global Financial Advisory business lifecycle game.

At a glance.

Key benefits.

The GFA Business Lifecycle Game was developed to better equip our practitioners with a clearer understanding of what Deloitte does across the GFA practice, tapping into each of the service offerings in a typical 'real life' work scenario. The digital simulation allows the participant to learn about all the services GFA offers at their own pace, and regardless of where they are geographically based.

Background.

Deloitte Global Financial Advisory (GFA) is one of Deloitte’s five key businesses, with global revenue of over $4 billion and nearly 20,000 staff worldwide. A Deloitte professional’s understanding of all aspects of the GFA business at an early stage in their career is crucial for building the success of the business, no matter what part of the business the individual themself operates in. Informed practitioners create opportunities for cross selling services and all ow Deloitte to position itself as the number one Business Advisor in the global marketplace.

To meet this learning need historically, an in person Business Lifecycle simulation was used as part of the induction process. The simulation was only regularly used in the UK and didn’t have a global reach. There was significant time, facilitator expertise, and cost implications to deliver the live simulation, so thousands of new joiners across the world missed out on this important learning.

The overall rationale behind this project was to increase the ‘fun factor’ of the learning experience, increase the number of global participants who could access the new game, and simultaneously reduce costs.

Building a solution that learners love.

An experience that flexes around the participants.

Deloitte and Sponge collaborated to create a game that allows maximum flexibility for the end user. The GFA Business Lifecycle game can be saved or paused after each business decision to allow users to perform a section, log off, and then return to the next section at a later stage. This offers maximum flexibility for learners to engage with the game as and when it suits them.

Creating the space for social learning.

This solution provided a great opportunity for participants to work in groups where appropriate. Encouraging a social element helped with team building and networking across the organisation. Suggestions about how the game can be played collaboratively in a group environment helped bring the social aspect of the game to life, further helping to break through silos across teams.

Introducing competition to drive engagement.

The choices the player makes throughout the game affects their overall score. At the end of the game, players are ranked on a global leaderboard and encouraged to give the game another try if they want to place higher. There are no restrictions on the number of times you can play the game so this competitive element is a really important factor in increasing learner engagement.

Delivering value for Deloitte's learners.

The GFA Business Lifecycle Game builds confidence in individual learners about the range of GFA services offered. The inclusion of the leaderboard introduces an element of competition, which means that the individual is more likely to fully engage, read, and absorb the learning content thoroughly to perform well and move themselves up the leaderboard.

The game also helps to break down silos within the business. This builds a greater level of comfort in our people to have more informed and constructive conversations with their clients, thereby building their credentials, opening the door to cross selling opportunities, and boosting individual and organisational performance.
